Tattoo Charlie’s Preston Hwy, Louisville and Tattoo Charlie's New Circle Rd, Lexington only use and install jewelry that meets or exceeds standards set forth by the Association of Professional Piercers. We only pierce with American made, internally threaded or threadless jewelry. Internally threaded or threadless jewelry meets up smooth to the piercing needle and slides through with no additional damage to the tissue. It hurts less and heals faster than using the older and cheaper externally threaded jewelry. High quality internally threaded or threadless jewelry rarely has a ball come loose as well. Most high end jewelry has either locking threads that help hold the ball in place or the threadless design which makes it very hard for the ball to come off when you don't want it too.

We NEVER use externally threaded jewelry. Externally threaded jewelry damages the skin, hurts more, and heals slower than internally threaded or threadless jewelry. Each of the threads on it tear your fresh piercing as they are pushed though. Externally threaded jewelry frequently is not polished well from the manufacturer and often has nicks in the finish. We stopped using externally threaded to pierce with in 2001. Your safety is very important to us.

All of the jewelry we pierce with and sell is implant grade. This means it has a much smoother surface finish than the imported body jewelry you get at a mall retailer or most other tattoo studios. A smoother finish means less irritation during every day wear on your skin. It will heal faster and have less problems with quality jewelry.

Quality jewelry does cost more than cheap,novelty jewelry. You are worth a few extra dollars to have safe jewelry.
